In 2011, Texas experienced the most severe drought in recorded history.  The public health, environmental, and economic impacts of water scarcity are uncertain, but mounting evidence suggest these impacts are likely significant.  As a result of the drought, Texas lost over 5 million trees, farmers lost billions in agricultural production, and some communities simply ran out of water.  Despite recent rains, over 75% Texas still experiences long-term drought.
